According to the Wenzhou Municipal Traffic Congestion Control Office, Wenzhou once again won the first place in the assessment of urban traffic congestion control of Hangzhou, Ningbo and Wenzhou in Zhejiang Province in 2021 and it did the same in  2019. Last year, Wenzhou achieved tangible results in traffic congestion control with people’s satisfaction rating of travel standing at 93.56%, which rose for four consecutive years.

Traffic jam spots are addressed and fast roads created

The construction of the east extension section of Wenzhou Avenue, Industry Park Road and Shanghui North Road, as provincial people’s livelihood improvement projects, was completed last year, highly commanded by the masses. In addition, 25 severe traffic jamming spots in Wenzhou were determined by data query, systematic screening and seeking public opinions, and targeted policies and measures were adopted for each spot so that the jamming spots control was completed ahead of schedule by the end of November 2021.

Last year, 39 "less red traffic light roads" were created in Wenzhou, resulting in the vehicle stopping times decrease by 54.3%. Through taking comprehensive truck cargo load restriction measures and forming a fast passage at rush hours in the morning and the evening, the congestion index of Ouhai Avenue Viaduct at the hours decreased by 8.73% YoY, and the averaged vehicle speed increased by 10.05% YoY.

It is worth mentioning that Wenzhou launched a special action to address expressway congestion last year. To remove congestion bottlenecks at Wenzhou Bridge, Sandu Ridge Tunnel and Louqiao Toll Station, the city established a joint duty execution mechanism of road administration, police and enterprises, and implemented a special comprehensive treatment with targeted schemes for varied congestion spots, which ensured the smooth operation of expressways across Wenzhou.

The city accelerated the implement of large number of traffic-related projects, such as Hangzhou-Wenzhou High-speed Railway, Urban Railway lines S2 and S3, Jinhua-Lishui-Wenzhou East Extension Line, Expressway (Phase I) in the south section of Wenzhou-Rui’an Avenue and Oujiang Beikou Bridge. Meanwhile, Wenzhou has built 77.9 kilometers of urban (including county) roads, including 22.58 km of newly-built and -reconstructed municipal roads and 21 km of opened-up dead end roads. Furthermore, by tapping potential public parking resources, such as spaces under bridges and idle ones, the city increased 66,803 parking spaces last year.

Public transport passenger trips and clean energy buses increase

Last year, based on conventional public transport and community bus lines, Wenzhou continued to build a green travel (public traffic network) system with "urban railway plus rail transit plus BRT" as the backbone. The city has completed BRT Lines 2 and 5 in its west extension sections ahead of schedule, newly built and optimized 87 conventional public transport lines, and 28 community bus lines. In 2021, the number of public transport passengers in Wenzhou reached 415 million, up 11% YoY.

To optimize the public transport-related environment, last year, Wenzhou increased 579 clean energy buses, built and renovated 244 urban bus stops (among them, 125 are harbor style), and 107 electronic bus-stop boards, over-fulfilling related annual tasks.
