As the upgrading project of the Wenzhou Sports Center is about to start, parts of the green belt surrounding the center have been surrounded by hoardings. This is one of the surrounding environment improvement actions to cater to the group stage's 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games football games.

Wenzhou Sports Center will host the 2022 Asian Games football games in the group stage. The total investment of the upgrading project is 72.96 million yuan, including outdoor ancillary projects, flood lighting projects and interior decoration projects. Wenzhou Sports Investment Group, a subsidiary of the City Development Group, is appointed to carry out the project, which is expected to be completed in May 2022.

Besides the facilities and equipment, the renovation includes the water landscape, facade lighting, and lighting design, which will create a better ambiance and illuminate the pedestrian journey to the venue.

During the construction, the outdoor sports facilities of the sports center and the parking lot in the square will be temporarily closed. Also, the stadiums and swimming pools will be closed for maintenance at staggered times according to the construction schedule.

The Asian Games Wenzhou Organizing Office hopes that Wenzhou citizens can understand the inconvenience and fully support the renovation of the Asian Games venues and the improvement of the surrounding environment for the 2022 Asian Games to be held. Hosting the Asian Games, as an opportunity to enhance Wenzhou’s comprehensive competitiveness, will give new momentum for its development and put it in a better position to attract more international games.
