Wenzhou’s online retail sales amount to 110.75 billion yuan in the first 7 months

According to Wenzhou Bureau of Commerce, in the first seven months of this year, Wenzhou achieved a total online retail sales of 110.75 billion yuan and an online resident consumption of 81.65 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 12% and 15.7% respectively. Its online resident consumption ranked the third in Zhejiang Province.

The top three industries of online retail sales in Wenzhou were apparel & shoes & bags, home furnishings and 3C digital products, accounting for 30.1%, 21.2% and 15.7% respectively. The total online retail sales of the three industries equaled 67.0% of the total online retail sales in Wenzhou.

The data of each platform showed that due to the influence of factors like platform preference and product attributes, the top three third-party e-commerce platforms that traditional enterprises or small and medium-sized e-commerce providers in Wenzhou choose are Taobao, TMALL and JD.COM. Other platforms such as SUNING.COM and GOME are also within the scope of their choice. Specifically, from January to July, Wenzhou’s cumulative online retail sales generated on Taobao, TMALL and JD.COM accounted for 44.1%, 34.1% and 21.7% of the city’s total online retail sales on key monitored platforms respectively.

Live e-commerce has become one of the main forces of online retail. During this year’s 618 (June 18th ) Shopping Festival, Wenzhou’s transaction on the three major live e-commerce platforms (Taobao live, TikTok, and Kwai) reached 594.86 million yuan. The number of live-streamers was 14,473, ranking among top three in the province. Among the three platforms, TikTok is rising to the top. During the 618 Shopping Festival, its number of live-streamers in Wenzhou totaled 11,731, accounting for 81%.

By the end of July 2021, there were 83,000 active online retail stores on Wenzhou’s key monitored third-party e-commerce platforms, equivalent to 38.8% of the total number of local online retail stores, ranking the third in the province. Among them, there were 12,000 enterprise stores (6,734 Tmall stores) and 72,000 individual stores. The top three counties (county-level cities and districts) with the most active online stores were Yueqing City, Lucheng District and Rui’an City, with 13,629, 10,053 and 9,590 active online stores respectively. Among the active Tmall online stores, there were 5,608 flagship stores, 712 franchise stores and 414 exclusive stores, with flagship stores accounting for 83.3%.

“Due to the sound employment and entrepreneurship atmosphere in Wenzhou, e-commerce has directly offered 233,000 jobs and indirectly driven 612,000 jobs, and e-commerce talents have grown rapidly, ” said an officer from Wenzhou Bureau of Commerce. With a strong e-commerce atmosphere, e-commerce has become a new engine of “mass entrepreneurship and innovation” in Wenzhou. Over one third of the city’s entrepreneurship and innovation projects are in fields related to e-commerce.
