Founded in 2002, the School & Hospital of Stomatology, Wenzhou Medical University is administered by a unified management system of the School and the Hospital. The School is one of the first stomatology schools with certified undergraduate programs approved by the Ministry of Education and the first school offering English-taught degree programs for international students in China. Starting the recruitment of 5-year undergraduate students in 1999, the School has developed a talent cultivation system of undergraduate education, graduate education, full-time adult education, and the education of international students and students from Hong Kong and Macao. Graduating students from the School have long been among the nation’s best at passing the National Medical Licensing Examination. The School is currently a unit responsible for the construction of one of the first emerging featured (Internationalization) specialties of Zhejiang Province, a key speciality of Wenzhou, an experimental demonstration center of colleges and universities in Wenzhou, a key discipline of colleges and universities in Zhejiang Province, a first-class discipline (Category B) of Zhejiang Province, and a key laboratory of Wenzhou. The School has hired Qiu Weiliu, a renowned academician and Professor Li Yiming as the President’s consultants. The School boasts high-level talents recruited by talent projects including the “National Thousand Talent Project for Distinguished Young Scholars”, the “Zhejiang Provincial 151 Talent Project”, the “Wenzhou Municipal 551 Talent Project” and the “Young and Mid-aged Discipline Leader in Colleges and Universities in Zhejiang Province”. The School has been undertaking over 100 scientific research programs at different levels in various fields including 21 national and provincial programs. The School has produced a Zhejiang Provincial Excellent Course and been awarded with 19 patents.

The Hospital is the largest provincial-level public stomatology hospital in Southern Zhejiang, and the first one to offer full range of services of oral and maxillofacial disease diagnosis and treatment, prevention, health care as well as social services. It is one of the first specialist training pilot bases in China, the first cleft lip and palate treatment training base of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, one of the first standardized clinical training bases for stomatology residents in Zhejiang. The Hospital is the host unit of Wenzhou Stomatological Association, Wenzhou Oral Health Guidance Center, and Wenzhou Oral Clinical Improvement Center. At present, the Hospital has five branches (sites) including the Xueyuanlu Branch, the Guangchanglu Branch, the Ouhai Branch, the Jiangbin Branch and the Yaoxi Branch. More than 90% of its staff and faculty are doctors and masters degree holders. The Hospital has over 120 dental chairs and 18 beds. The Yaoxi Branch with a planned land coverage of 33.7 mu (approximately 22466.779 square meters) and a first-phase construction area of 36,000 square meters is expected to be put into use in 2018.
