The Ground Transportation Center (GTC) of Wenzhou Airport successfully topped off on December 30, 2020, marking the completion of the key part of the project. Wenzhou Airport indicated that it would continue to accelerate the construction in order for the new facility to open in 2022 and to build Wenzhou into a national comprehensive transportation hub.

The GTC of Wenzhou Airport is the city’s key project, with a total investment of 3.511 billion yuan and a total construction area of about 300,000 square meters. Located at the west side of the T2 terminal of the airport, it consists of two parts, the underground and the above-ground. Constructions of the two-level underground part, an area of about 90,000 square meters, include the airport station of Wenzhou Suburban Rail Transit Line S1 and Line S2, and 3100 ancillary parking spaces. Constructions of the above-ground part, about 210,000 square meters, include a long-distance bus station, park and ride facilities, five-star hotels and others. In addition, airline check-in and self-help baggage check-in systems will be introduced on a trial basis.

At the start of the construction of the GTC in July 2019, Wenzhou Airport Group divided the project into different zones based on its characteristics and pursued synchronous advancement and implementation of these zones. Meanwhile, the construction was sped up to ensure the prompt entry of the mechanical, electrical, and decoration units. Since the work and production resumed this year, a “Transportation Center Vanguard” composed of the Communist Party members was set up to join in and accelerate the construction. Exceptional measures, without compromising security, such as working around the clock under 24-hour supervision were adopted. The GTC top-off task was successfully fulfilled two months ahead of the schedule.

During the “13th Five-Year Plan” period, Wenzhou Airport aviation business developed rapidly, with its handling capacity expanded to 10 million passengers, flight zone upgraded to 4E, T2 terminal built and put into use. As a new round of airport renovation is completed, a solid foundation for the third phase expansion and future development of Wenzhou Airport is laid. During the “14th Five-Year” period, focusing on building a safe, green, smart, and humanistic airport and upholding the orientation of “the country’s major regional airline hub”, Wenzhou Airport will build itself into “a garden airport” with outstanding commercial value.
