Master Yongjia's Works Int’l Edition Exhibition Kicks Off in Wenzhou

On the morning of November 2, the "International Editions Exhibition of Yongjia Master's Works and East Asian Cultural Exchanges" was held at the Wenzhou City Library to promote the cultural exchanges between the countries in East Asia.

"Culture Capital of East Asia",a fruit from the China, Japan and South Korea meeting mechanism, is a significant event in the cultural field of the three countries. One city of China, Japan and South Korea each has once been selected as the capital location annually since it was created, and up to now,the Capital has been located in turn in 21 cities: Quanzhou, Qingdao, Ningbo, Changsha, Harbin, Xi’an, and Yangzhou in China; Yokohama, Niigata, Nara, Kyoto, Kanazawa, Tokyo’s Toshima Ward and Kitakyushu in Japan; Gwangju, Cheongju, Jeju, Daegu, Busan, Incheon and Suncheon in South Korea. Wenzhou has been nominated as a candidate city for the location of the Cultural Capital in 2020-2022.

The East Asian cultural exchanges conducted on Nov.2 were hosted by Hong Zhenning, Director of the Wenzhou-Science Research Institute of Wenzhou University. Participants in the exchanges were Chinese, Japanese and South Korean Scholars: Jeon Hong Cheol, President (on Korean side) of Woosuk University Confucius Institute, Hiroshi Arami, Vice President of Hiroshima University Comprehensive Humanities College, Chen Yongge, Director of the Philosophy Research Institute of the Zhejiang Academy of Social Sciences,Wang Xiaodun, Director of the East Asian Chinese Literature Research Center of Wenzhou University, Zhang Zikai, professor of Sichuan University Literature and Journalism College and others. Themed by Xuanjue (Master Yongjia) and East Asian cultural exchanges, the scholars made an in- depth discussion on studies and dissemination of Xuanjue’s works in South Korea, of his Song of Enlightenment and Yongjia Collection in Japan, and of the history and future of Yongjia’s Zen Buddhism as well as Wenzhou’s foreign cultural exchanges. The discussion was carried out by online and offline video connection.

It is reported that at the Exhibition appeared more than 100 editions of Song of Enlightenment and Yong Jia Collection (ancient Chinese Buddhist texts) by Master Yongjia, in which 43 editions are from China, 24 from Japan, 30 from South Korea and the rest from other countries, and many of which are rare editions and even unique in the world. The works were and will be displayed in forms of well-preserved editions, imitated copies and the texts on the display panels. It is the first time that  so many editions of Master Yongjia’s works from the world have been gathered for display. The exhibition will last to November 22th.

The event was hosted by Wenzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio and Tourism and the Foreign Affairs Office of the Wenzhou Municipal People's Government, co-organized by Wenzhou People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Wenzhou Foreign Cultural Exchange Association and Wenzhou University College of Humanities, and undertaken by Wenzhou City Library.
