On December 25, Wenzhou's Lucheng District was named the "Home of Chinese Embroidery Art" by the Chinese Folk Literature and Art Association.

Obtaining the honour is largely attributed to the profound folk embroidery tradition and culture in Lucheng District. This area has bred three kinds of embroideries: Ou Embroidery, Hair Embroidery and Cross Embroidery. Among them, superfine products have been displayed in international exhibitions for many times or presented as national gifts to foreign guests. In addition, the district is committed to supporting and promoting the embroidery art and culture to adapt to the trend of the times, and accelerate the pace of their development while protecting and inheriting the embroidery crafts. The district is implementing the projects of reviving the “hometown of various handicrafts industries”,and of building an arts and crafts masters’ residence, and establishing platforms for the inheritance, development and exhibition of various embroidery species. Therefore, the expert group of the Chinese Folk Literature and Art Association, who came to conduct an investigation in and assessment on folk handicrafts in Wenzhou this month, gave an affirmation to the district's embroidery artistic achievements and development atmosphere.

Next, Lucheng District is planning to build a Wenzhou embroidery museum at the China Shoes Capital Exhibition Center (the Lucheng District Culture and Art Exhibition Center) in Wenzhou. In the museum, there will be embroidery history pavilion, celebrities' superfine embroidery pavilion, special exhibition hall and other parts. Ou embroidery, hair embroidery, and cross embroidery will be displayed in the museum’s three zones respectively, and embroidery cultural relics and masterpieces of contemporary embroidery will also be exhibited. All this will make the museum a multifunctional venue for embroidery skills research and development, academic exchanges, display, and appraisal as well as related cultural dissemination. The museum will hold events like the China Embroidery Art Summit Forum, and the Wenzhou’s Superfine Embroidery Works Exhibition, which will further create Lucheng District’s embroidery-related cultural atmosphere, and make embroidery a new highlight to showcase Lucheng’s artistic achievements.
