Nearly 100 Wenzhouese Teach in 9 Major National Art Academies

As the cradle forfostering artists, the major national art academies play an indispensable role in China.There are nine major art academies in China, including Central Academy of Fine Arts, China Academy ofArt, Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, Hubei Academy of Fine Arts, Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts and Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts. These academies boast artists of different genres and cultivate many artists for China. On April 9th, the reporter learned from the Wenzhou Artists Association thatover the years there has been nearly 100 Wenzhouese teachers in nine major art academies, most of whom teach in China Academy of Art and Central Academy of Fine Arts. Among them are not only vanguards in the art circle, academic leaders in these academies, but also some rising stars who have won rewards in national art exhibitions.

“Wenzhou is home to picturesque sceneries and splendid culture. It is also the birthplace of outstanding artists, such as Lin Fu, Ye Fu, Su Wei-Shuo, Chen Zhenlong, Zhang Mingcao, etc., who used their paintings to awaken the patriotism of theChinese in the 1930s.A staff fromthe Wenzhou Artists Association said that after the founding of thePeople’s Republic of China, the fine art industry has developed more vigorously andWenzhouese artists from all over the country have been exploring and innovating in the subjectselection and art form, further, and opening up a broader world and multi-dimensional space of art creation.

From December 2016 to February 2017, an exhibition for the works of the Wenzhouese teachers of the nine major art academies was held in the Wenzhou Museum.The organizer of the exhibition invitedWenzhouese teachers who havetaught, or were still teachingat the nine major national art academies over the years, arranged and displayed some of the works of some famous Wenzhouese artists who have passed away. 170 works in display, covering Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, sculpture, watercolor painting, pottery, fresco and multi-media image works and other art categories, as well as the time span of more than 80 years.This exhibition was the first centralized display for the combination ofWenzhou Grand Fine Arts creation theory and its practice.

It is believed that the exhibition strengthenedartistic exchange and cooperation between Wenzhou and the nine majorart academies.

Central Academy of Fine Arts

Wang Weixin: Professor of Central Academy of Fine Arts, Member of the First Session, Deputy Director of the Second Session of Chinese Art Association Watercolor Art Committee, One of the leading figures in watercolor painting and copper engraving in China. It’s the first time in China that his individual bronze engraving works has been collected by the International Art Museum. In December 2016, Wang Weixin Art Studio was set up in Wenzhou Calligraphy and Painting Academy, and he became the first Wenzhouese artist who sets up a studio in Wenzhou Calligraphy and Painting Academybut works outside of Wenzhou. The studio is responsible for the training, research and creation of watercolor painting and copperplate printing.

Chen Shuxia: Female, Professor, Department of Fine Arts Education, College of Liberal Arts, Central Academy of Fine Arts.Famous oil painter in China.

Xia libin: Doctor, Young Teacher of Oil Painting Department of Central Academy of Fine Arts. 16 outstanding works were exhibited in Beijing GongwangfuMuseum in September 2018.

China Academy of Art

Chen Shouyi: He has been the director of the department of art education, vice-director of the department of research, director of the department of comprehensive painting and comprehensive art in China Academy of Art. He is now a professor of the department of oil painting of China Academy of Art and a member of the Chinese Artists Association, Zhejiang Artists Association and Zhejiang Oil Painters Association.

Zhou Chongzhang: Professor, Department of Print, School of Painting, Chinese Academy of Fine Arts, President of Zhejiang Watercolor Painters Association.

Jin Jiaji: Chinese painter and fine arts educator.He has served as the professor of schoolof art in Zhejiang Institute of Education, professor of traditional Chinese painting department of China Academy of Art and president of Zhejiang Institute of Fine Arts Education.

Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University

Zeng Chenggang: Famous sculpture artist.President of Chinese Sculpture Association, Vice Chairman of Chinese Artists Association, Vice President of Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University.

Ding Hong: Doctor, Associate Professor of Department of Painting, Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University. Many works have been collected by the Institute of Modern Art of China, Chengdu Modern Art Museum and other institutions.

Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts

Zhao Ruichun: He taught at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts from 1959 to 1971, at Central Academy of Fine Arts from 1980 to 1982, and has been a professional painter of Guangzhou Academy of Painting since 1984.He is now a member of the Chinese Artists Association, an art director of Guangzhou Painting Academy and a first-class painter. He is good at printmaking, watercolor painting, polished lacquer painting and sketching.
