“Nowadays, people are giving a growing attention for environmental protection and beautification. New Zealand has done a good job in this area. I am very happy to have the opportunity to study New Zealand’slandscape architecture and gardening expertise at home in Wenzhou.”said Jiao Renjun, a 19-year-old young man who grew up in Yongjia County, Wenzhou. On October 30, Jiaoand more than 30 otherfreshmen enrolled in the China-New Zealand Landscape Architecture Joint Education Program by Wenzhou Vocational College of Science and Technology (WZVCST) and the Northland Polytechnic (NorthTec) in New Zealand participated in the inauguration ceremony of the Program. They are expected tobecome talented professionals with a global vision after completing a brand new journey of learning in the next three years.

It is understood that NorthTec is the only Northland-based Tertiary Education Institute (TEI) in New Zealand that provides programs ranging from foundation, certificate, diploma and degree levels in science, engineering and agriculture. Under the first international cooperative education program launched at WZVCST, about 900 hours of teaching will be directly given by high-quality teachers introduced from New Zealand in three years. The curriculum and teaching materials for disciplinary courses will be provided by NorthTec. At the same time, to build a faculty with a global vision, WZVCST will send its teachers of related disciplines to NorthTec for training. According to the cooperation agreement between WZVCST and NorthTec, WZVCST students majoring in landscape architecture will receive diplomas from both institutions after completing all the courses. Meanwhile, students of WZVCST’s three-year education programs can apply to NorthTec for studying in relevant undergraduate degree programs.

As China’s only higher vocational college with its roots as an academy of agricultural sciences, in recent years, WZVCST has attached great importance to international exchanges and cooperation, actively expanded international cooperation projects, and vigorously introduced overseas quality education resourcesto build itself a model of international cooperation in agricultural higher vocational education. In September 2017, the China-New Zealand Joint Education Program for Landscape Architecture was successfully approved (by the Ministry of Education). In September 2018, the first enrollment of the Program, a total of 39 freshmen, were admitted.
