Founded in 1958, Wenzhou TCM-integrated Hospital was initially known as Wenzhou United Hospital. Under the approval of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Health and the Wenzhou Municipal People’s Government, the Hospital was renamed the Wenzhou TCM-integrated Hospital as one of the first 28 such hospitals in China. The Hospital is currently the only TCM-integrated hospital in Wenzhou of a relatively large scale, offering medical treatment, scientific research, teaching, prevention and health care services.

The Hospital is a municipal public Grade A TCM-integrated hospital with 800 approved beds. Currently, the Hospital offers 932 beds in service including 215 beds available in the Children’s Hospital. With a total area of 60 mu (approximately 40,000 square meters) and a total construction of 85,000 square meters, the Hospital now is an affiliated hospital of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, a teaching hospital of Wenzhou Medical University and Anhui University of Chinese Medicine. The Hospital has been awarded with honorary titles including the “Baby-friendly Hospital” conferred by UNESCO, the Provincial Green Hospital of Zhejiang (one of the first batch of awarded hospitals) and Wenzhou Safe Hospital.

The Hospital’s inpatient building with 25 floors above the ground and a total construction area of 520,000 square meters is the largest single inpatient building in Wenzhou and one of the mega inpatient buildings in Zhejiang. Inside the inpatient building, the Hospital has set up 2 100-level laminar air-flow operating rooms and 10 10000-level laminar air-flow operating rooms. The intensive care unit (ICU) covering an area around 1200 square meters has 20 beds and 2 wards of isolation negative pressure and purification. The Hospital has 18 primary clinical specialties, and 14 secondary clinical specialties, 11 major medical technology departments and 20 wards including Emergency, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Pediatrics (western medicine), TCM Pediatrics, Children’s Healthcare, Injury and Orthopedics (including trauma, hand and foot, spine, joint surgery), Neurology, Neurosurgery, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Cardiovascular Medicine, Rehabilitation, Andrology, Dermatology, Urology, Anorectal, ENT, Acupuncture and Massage. The specialties of obstetrics and gynecology, injury orthopedics, neurology, and andrology are provincial and municipal key specialties.

The Hospital has a staff of 1182, including 140 employees with senior professional titles, 81 employees with master’s degree and 2 doctoral degree. Some staff have won high positions in relative fields: 1 vice chairman of a national medical committee, 1 vice chairman of a provincial medical committee, 3 director and deputy directors of municipal academic societies and 6 chairmen of municipal medical committees. The hospital is well-equipped with advanced medical instruments and devices including a 1.5T nuclear magnetic resonance, two sets of spiral CT (one of which is 16-row CT), three DRs (including one mobile DR), a BECKMANCOULTERAU-5421 biochemical analyzer, 7 B ultrasound machines (including 1 multifunctional color B ultrasound machine), and a 8-seat medical hyperbaric oxygen chamber, resulting in the effectively improved diagnostic level of the hospital.
