Opening Ceremony of Training Program for South African Teachers 2017 at WZVTC

On the morning of August 16th, the opening ceremony of Training Program for South African Teachers 2017 was held at Wenzhou Vocational & Technical College (WZVTC). Xie Zhiyuan, (President of WZVTC), Zhou Huaizhong (Deputy Director of the Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Wenzhou Municipal People’s Government, WFOCAO for shot), Wang Xianghong (Vice President of WZVTC) and 11 teachers from 7 colleges inSouth Africaattended the ceremony.

This training program was sponsored by the Chinese Culture and International Exchange center, with trainees dispatched by the Ministry of Higher Education and Training of South Africa and Industrial Manufacturing Training Authority, marking the first cooperation in vocational training between Wenzhou and educational departments of African countries, and the first cooperation in in-service teachers training between the Ministry of Higher Education and Training of South Africa and Chinese colleges. The program covers a variety of training courses, such as on-site visits, expert lectures,  practical exercises and so on.

At the ceremony, President Xie Zhiyuan gave a speech. He offered his cordial welcome to the 11 South African teachers and briefly described the status quo of Wenzhou and the college. Xie pointed out that the training program was an important measure to further promote bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the field of education, valuable and significant to better serve the country’s “Belt and Road” (B&R) initiative. He stressed that this training not only opened up the academic exchanges and cooperation between the college andSouth Africa, but also created a new channel of international exchanges for the college. He hoped that this program could help build a bridge for normal exchanges and cooperation between the college andSouth Africa, so that the two sides could share their experiences and practices and learn from each other through intensified mutual exchanges.

Mr. Zhou Huaizhong gave an ebullient English speech. He pointed out that this collaborative program between Wenzhou and the Ministry of Higher Education of South Africa, the first ever between Wenzhou and African educational departments, not only echoed the development strategy of the central government to advance China-South Africa comprehensive strategic partnership, but also provided local talents for Chinese enterprises, Wenzhou enterprises in particular, to go into African market in the service of local social and economic development. He hoped that the South African trainees could make full use of their time in WZVTC to learn about the college and Wenzhou, and introduce Wenzhou to their friends and colleagues back inSouth  Africaso as to facilitate the exchanges and cooperation betweenSouth Africaand Wenzhou.

It is learned that in March this year, through the match-making of WFOCAO,a delegation composed of Dr. Lu Zhilei (Director of Chinese Culture and International Exchange center) and Dr. Raymond Patel (Director of SETA) visited Wenzhou and conducted exchanges with WZVTC for the cooperation of B&R vocational training.
