Recently, Hermann Schützenhöfer, Governor of the Austrian State of Styria ((Steiermark in German), led a delegation to visit China. During the visit, relevant institutions in the State of Styria in Austria signed MoUs with Wenzhou Medical University (WMU) and Wenzhou Vocational and Technical College (WVTC) in Shanghai.

Lu Zhongqiu, Dean of the Nursing School of WMU, and Gerd Hartinger, Chief Executive Officer of Graz Elderly Health Center, signed an MoU on further deepening cooperation in medical and health care, elderly care services, scientific research, etc.

President Xie Zhiyuan of WVTC and President Josef Schellnegger of the largest vocational and technical school in Austria, signed an MoU concerning faculty and student exchange, professional cooperation and other aspects of cooperation and exchanges in the future.

The signing of MoUs is reportedly made possible thanks to the networking efforts of Dr. Chen Wanjie, Vice Chairman of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber’s Foreign Trade Committee, an overseas Wenzhouese in Austria. In February of this year, Dr. Chen Wanjie, accompanied by Ms. Silvia Neureiter, Consul of the Austrian Consulate General in Shanghai, visited Wenzhou. During the visit carefully arranged by Wenzhou Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, they conducted in-depth communication and exchange with local institutions of higher learning including WMU and WVTC on international education, enterprise-university-research institute cooperation and other issues to lay a solid foundation for the cooperation between China and Austria.
