On March 13, Zhang Geng, deputy Party Secretary and Mayor of Wenzhou, met with the visiting delegation of Consulate-General of Japan in Shanghai headed by Mr. Kazuyuki Katayama, the Consul-General.
Zhang Geng expressed his warm welcome to Mr. Kazuyuki Katayama and briefed the delegation about the economic and social development of Wenzhou. According to Zhang, Wenzhou, pilot region of the reform and opening-up policy and cradle of private economy, has a solid foundation in light industry, a number of Wenzhounese businessmen around the world and rich resources in tourism. Japan, with its flourishing economy and well-developed industries of electronic and electrical products, automobile manufacturing, animation and so on, is highly complementary to Wenzhou. In recent years, Wenzhou has carried out a wide range of cooperation with Japan cities in such fields as economy, education, culture, and good results have been achieved. Zhang hopes that the Consul-General will continue to build a bridge across the two sides to further enhance the interactive activities to achieve complementary advantages, mutual benefits and a win-win situation.
The delegation was here mainly to participate in “Wenzhou Japanese Cultural Exchanges” activities held in Wenzhou Medical University. Mr. Katayama said that he will publicize and promote Wenzhou to Japanese people and enterprises to deepen their understanding of Wenzhou economic and social development, as well as the investment climate in Wenzhou, to encourage them to visit Wenzhou. Meanwhile, he welcomed Wenzhou people to carry out tourism, cultural exchanges, economic and trade cooperation and other activities in Japan.
Vice Mayor Miao Weilun, Secretary General of the Municipal Government Peng Lihua also attended the meeting.
