2017 Wenzhou African Culture Week kicks off

On November 15th, “Hello Wenda, Hello World! Wenzhou University 2nd International Culture Week and “Belt & Road + Amazing Africa!” 2017 Wenzhou African Culture Week kicked off at Wenzhou University. Jointly held by the Wenzhou Municipal People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (WMPAFFC) and Wenzhou University (WZU), the opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Qian Qiang, Vice President of WZU, Mr. Zhou Huaizhong, Deputy Director of WMPAFFC, Ms. Ye Binbin, Director of the International Division of Wenzhou Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and Ms. Ye Miao, Dean of the International Education College, WZU. Representative faculty members and students from WZU also attended the opening ceremony.

As one representative of the organizers, Mr. Zhou Huaizhong delivered a speech on the opening ceremony. In his remarks, he pointed out that 598 international students from 59 countries and regions are studying at WZU and among 52 African countriesChinahas diplomatic relations with, students from 33 African countries are represented at WZU. Mr. Zhou hoped that based on historical bonds of friendship between Chinese people and African people, the culture week can further strengthen their friendship and cooperation. He added that the culture week will inspire more students and teachers to tap into the unique Africa’s culture and its beauty. 

At the opening ceremony, a portfolio of show events were staged, including a chorus of “dedicated song to international students”, guitar solo and costume show. It offered an excellent chance for People in Wenzhou to enjoy unique features of foreign and exotic cultures.  

It’s said that during November 15-21, an array of events will be staged, including  Info Session on International Exchange Programme and Overseas Finance for Study Abroad, the exhibition of art works by our foreign students, the launch of textbook “Taste Chinese in Wenzhou”, Chinese language competition, international food exhibition, football match, Study Abroad Info Session, ikebana (meaning “Japanese flower arranging”), Tea Ceremony, etc. The one-week long culture week will offer a great opportunity for students and teachers fromChinaand other countries to explore the beauty of exotic cultures and make more international friends.
