Wenzhou University and Chonnam National University set up a joint Ph.D. program

On the morning of October 24th, the launch ceremony for joint Ph.D. program between Wenzhou University(WZU) and Chonnam National University (CNU),South   Koreawas held. Li Xiaokun (President of WZU) and Zhou Huaizhong (Deputy Director of Wenzhou Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office) attended the ceremony, as well as 28 co-supervisors for the joint Ph.D. program from WZU and 10 doctoral supervisors from CNU such as Professor Moon Ki Suk (Director of Office of International Affairs) and Jang Sun Baek (Dean of College of Natural Sciences).

Zhou Huaizhong said that through the establishment of the joint Ph.D. program, the two universities could share resources and achievements in talent training, the integration of production and education, international education etc. so as to build a community of education under the “Belt and Road” initiative. He believed that the establishment of the joint Ph.D. program marked the beginning of in-depth cooperation between WZU and CNU, ushering in a new chapter of exchange and cooperation between Wenzhou and Gwangju.

President Li Xiaokun introduced WZU’s characteristics of school management and internationalization strategy. He pointed out that the university would closely follow national strategies and promote international cooperation through the establishment of international education research platforms like joint Ph.D. programs. President Li also said that he would give full support to the construction of joint Ph.D. programs for in-depth and sustainable development in order to attract the best students around the world.

 Professor Jang Sun Baek said that CNU would spare no effort to set up the joint Ph.D. program and an international platform for scientific and technological cooperation between the two universities. It would cooperate with WZU to jointly train high-quality applied talents with international orientation.

At the ceremony, President Li granted the certificate of Visiting Professor in Wenzhou  University to 10 doctoral supervisors from CNU. After mutual visits and exchange, CNU will hire co-supervisors from WZU as its doctoral supervisors.

It is learned that the joint Ph.D. program between WZU and CNU will start its enrollment at the beginning of 2018. Founded in 1909 and located in Gwangju, CNU was a national comprehensive university at the level of municipality directly under the Central Government, ranking 10th among all universities inSouth   Korea. In 2012, Wenzhou and Gwangju became cities of friendly exchange relationship.
