On Jan. 3, the Sino-African Chamber of Commerce in Wenzhou (SACCW) was founded, which will serve as a new platform for Sino-African cooperation and exchanges, and Wenzhou's opening-up. The agency will play an important role in propelling economic factors orderly flowing, efficient resources allocation and in-depth market convergence between the two places. Mr. Zhang Geng, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Wenzhou Committee and Vice Mayor of this city, attended the founding conference and delivered the Chamber plaque to the agency.
With a vast territory and abundant resources, Africa boasts a large potential market. In recent years, with China's further implementation of its opening-up policies, such as the Belt and Road Initiative, China and Africa have launched a New era for win-win cooperation and common development. In past years, the two sides have promoted their interaction and exchanges, and quickened their economic and trade cooperation. In the early 90s of the last century, Wenzhouese businessman Wu Gongde founded a modern international chains group in Africa. Now he owns nearly 2 million hectares of forests in Gabon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and other countries, and has established a powerful business system there. Another Wenzhouese investor Xu Kaiyu set up Dihao Group in Africa, and established a mine resources development project with the largest investments China’s private enterprises have ever made overseas so far… In addition, Wenzhouese businessmen have also taken part in African industry park construction, natural resources development, etc., which promoted the common prosperity of Wenzhou’s enterprises, and African economy and society.
With Wenzhou as a base and targeting Africa, the SACCW is committed to enhancing the complementariness of Wenzhou’s productive capacity and African industries. It will vigorously advance the development of the international emerging market. It is learned that the Chamber, based on Wenzhouese businessmen’s trade and investment in Africa and taking advantage of the Wenzhou-African sea route, is to establish in Madagascar a special economic zone, international tourism center, light industry manufacture park, free trade zone, bonded zone, logistics center, high-tech industrial park, modernized and highly-efficient agriculture park, and mining right and mining products trade center as well as African finance center. Meanwhile, the SACCW will found a Sino-African cooperation park in Wenzhou’s bonded areas to promote African resources utilization and its competitive industries development in Wenzhou.
Shi Aizhu, Wang Xaiotong, Miao Weilun, and Zhang Fangzhang, leaders of the Wenzhou Municipal People’s Government, also attended the founding conference. Mr. Xu Kaiyu, Executive Director of Dihao Group, and Executive Secretary General of the Sino-African Forum for Local Government Cooperation, was elected President of the agency.
