Recently, Rui’an sees a full swing of Sino-Australian Culture Week activities. Rui’an Jiyun Experimental School held many activities to help 16 teachers and students from Kurnai College, Australia better appreciate Chinese brilliant traditional culture. For example, the school teachers helped the delegates to experience Chinese traditional food culture by learning to make Jaiozi and Tangyuan on 21st, March. And on 24th, the school prepared a unique Chinese calligraphy public class for them in Rui’an Yuhai square. Staff of the Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Rui’an government accompanied the delegates all the time.

In this activity, first, a Chinese calligraphy teacher introduced the long history of Chinese calligraphy to Australian teachers and students for a general understanding of the ancient art. Then the teacher demonstrated how to write Chinese characters such as  with a Chinese writing brush. The Australian students began to practice it from Chinese basic strokes, and step by step, they learned how to write Chinese ancient characters and experienced profound Chinese calligraphic charm. Meanwhile, students from Rian Jiyun Experimental School played Guzheng, a 21-or 25-stringed plucked instrument, providing Australian students with a beautiful Chinese ancient music as background. Some of the Australian students, out of high spirits, wrote down their own English name by the brush, which was so special and arresting.

It is learned that the 16 delegates also visited some culture landmarks such as Yuhai Chamber, Liji Medical School and so on. They were deeply impressed by the activities, so they expected more similar activities in order to have a better understanding of Chinese culture and China.
