Performed by: NANTA Group Time: 19:30, April 12th, 2016 NANTA is a humorous silent comedy performed by South Korea’s traditional instruments “percussion quartet”. With the kitchen being the main context, cooks are the leading characters, while knives and other kitchen utensils become their musical instruments. On April 12th, South Korean stars will showcase their “cooking skills” in their “kitchen”, Wenzhou Grand Theater, for all the audience NANTA has become one of the most famous South Korean shows and gained great popularity among South Korean audience since its premium in early October of 1997. In 1999, NANTA participated in the Edinburgh Festival in the U.K. and won the highest score during the festival. Since then, it went to the world, giving shows at invitation in such countries as Britain, Germany, Austria, Italy, Japan, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia. Later, it even performed at Broadway in New York. Statistics show that every year, over 10,000 foreign visitors go to South Korea to watch NANTA given by its original cast members. Characterized by fantastic ideas and a hilarious plot, NANTA moves kitchen scenes onto the stage, and incorporates such utensils as pans, bowls, scoops and basins and various vegetables into its show, making for a magic kitchen of music and happiness in the ambiance of lighting and music. Four cooks play wonderful melodies by kitchen utensils and even improvise by vegetables like cucumber. The best part and the climax of the show lies in the scene of “beating water drums”, where performers beat five drums filled with water. Besides, NANTA integrates almost all forms of stage play. In addition to beating “kitchen musical instruments”, it mixes multiple performing forms such as dance,magic and witty skits to cater for all tastes. Plot: In the kitchen, three cooks including the chef start their work of the day. When they are carrying around the vegetables and arranging kitchen utensils, one bad-tempered manager comes in and orders them to prepare all the dishes for the wedding banquet this evening before 6 o’clock. It strikes the cooks from out of the blue, since they have no idea about the banquet at all. And the manager arranges his nephew to join them. Though the cooks dislike the nephew, they hurry to prepare the fishes since time is short before the banquet starts. The chef tries his best to be on time, yet problems arise one after another. What’s worse, the male cook who wants to be a Wushu master and the female cook who deems herself as a well-known chef are poor in their cooking skills. The banquet is around the corner... |
