2016 China (Wenzhou) Investment and Trade Dialogue was held on November 29 in Wenzhou. Wenzhou signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Investment and Trade with the Malaysian State of Pahang to further strengthen bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
It is understood that Wenzhou and Malaysia have long-standing economic and trade cooperation relations while overseas Wenzhouese businessmen in Malaysia have also established business associations to carry out bilateral investment and trade. According to the statistics of the Municipal Bureau of Commerce, during the period from January to October this year, Wenzhou’s total import and export trade with Malaysia has amounted to nearly 900 million yuan, marking a year-on-year increase of 11.9%.
On the occasion of the visit of the senior business delegation from the Malaysian Pahang State, the Municipal Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office and the Municipal Bureau of Commerce of Wenzhou jointly organized the trade dialogue to build a bridge for local enterprises and related enterprises in Malaysia to seek more opportunities for cooperation in agricultural import and export trade, renewable energy, tourism development, food and beverage investment, mineral development, home product trade and other areas.
After the signing ceremony, Mr. Tung, who set up a foreign trade company in Lucheng District, participated in one-on-one talks with Malaysian enterprises. “Malaysian agricultural products are welcomed by the public and the dialogue will give us a timely opportunity to discuss cooperation issues with the Malaysians,” he said.
At present, Malaysia is an important trading partner of China in ASEAN, and one of the important countries along the “Belt and Road” Initiative. Located on the eastern coast of the Malay Peninsula, Pahang is the largest state on the Malay Peninsula. Its main economic sectors are agriculture, forestry, fisheries and tourism. Genting Highlands, a popular tourist destination for people in Wenzhou, is located in Pahang.
