Rice molding, or rice flour molding, is a local specific folk handicraft of Wenzhou, and one of the Top Two Flour Moldings in China. Cooked rice flour is adopted as a raw material; and by such processes as kneading, pinching, engraving, and color painting, moldings are formed for humans, dragons, phoenixes, plants, birds and beasts as well as opera figures from Chinese classic literary works, such as“Romance of the Three Kingdoms”, “The Legend of Deification”, “Journey to the West”, and “Outlaws of the Marsh”. These molded figures, painted with colors, become vivid. Different from wheat flour molding, Wenzhou’s rice molding products can be very high, up to a few meters, thus posing much difficulty to moth proofing and storage. |
