Brief Introduction of the Friendship Between Wenzhou and Union County

1. In 1992, Wenzhou started contacts with Union County after the Wenzhou municipal government delegation visited the U.S.
2.  A delegation from Union County visited Wenzhou in may 1993. The Letter of Intention on Establishing Friendly Exchange Relationship between Wenzhou and Union County was signed.
3. The Agreement on the Establishment of Friendly Exchange Relationship Between Wenzhou and Union County was signed on May, 1.1994.
4. From 1994 to 1997, frequent visits have been carried out between Wenzhou and Union County, and substantial progress has been made in friendly exchange and business cooperation.
5. On June 29,1998, Mr. Qian xingzhong, the mayor of Wenzhou city signed the Agreement on Establishing Sister City Relationship Between Wenzhou and Union County in Union County.

    Lying in the northeast of New Jersey, Union County covers an area of 267,779 square kilometers (133400 square miles) with a population of 500,000.
    Union County is fortunately located within the New York metropolitan area, only half an hour drive from the city of New York.  The government office of the county is situated in Elizabeth. There are 21 cities under its jurisdiction. Elizabeth harbor, which is called the capital of containers of the U.S, is the largest terminal for the deep water ships in the eastern coast. Union County is one of the most important business & industrial centers in the state of New Jersey and home of many famous companies. There are about 15,000 various companies, with about 250,000 employers.
    Education in Union County is quite developed. There are 161 middle schools and 1 university in the county.
