The Brief Introduction of the Friendly Exchanges between Wenzhou and Alicante (Spain)

　　1． In May 1992, Mr. Ribes, the secretary-general of the Municipality-Province Union in Valencia, paid a visit to Wenzhou and was deeply impressed by Wenzhou. Mr.Yuan Tao, the Chinese Consul General to Spain, promoted this trip and also recommended both cities set up sister city relationship.
　　2． In May 1993, Mr. Gao Yegen, the director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Wenzhou Municipal People's Government, visited Alicante together with his work-team.
　　3． In December 1993, Mr. Zhang Youyu, the secretary of the Municipal Party Committee of Wenzhou, led a delegation to Alicante. The trip had greatly enhanced the friendly relationship between Wenzhou and Alicante.
　　4． In January 1994, Mr. Ribes and his delegation visited Wenzhou for the second time. With the approval of the Foreign Affairs Office of Zhejiang Provincial People's Government, a draft agreement for establishing friendly exchange relationship between Wenzhou and Alicante was signed.
　　5． In January 1995, Mr. Han Wende, the deputy director of the Standing Committee of Wenzhou Municipal People's Congress, paid a visit to Alicante. This has further improved the mutual understanding between the two cities.
　　6． In December1995, Mr. Chen Wenxian, the mayor of Wenzhou and his group visited Spain. The agreement of establishing sister city relationship between Wenzhou and Alicante was signed on Dec.4th, 1995.

Brief Introduction of Alicante City of Spain

　　Located in the developed southeast coast of Spain, Alicante, a beautiful port city, is the capital city of the Province of Alicante in Valencia. It has a pleasant climate. With a year average temperature of about 18℃, the lowest temperature in winter is more or less 10℃.
　　The population of the city is 500,000(1,000,000 of the whole province). With the sunshine and beautiful beach endowed by nature, the city has abundant resources in tourism. Now Alicante has become one of the eight most popular tourism cities in Europe, which receive almost 5,000,000 tourists per year.
　　Mainly depending on the tour industry, the industries of Alicante such as fruit planting in agriculture, shoes, toy, architectural materials, foodstuff and fabric in industry and commerce & business, finance and estate in tertiary industry have bloomed very quickly.
　　With a complete layout of infrastructure facilities, the transportation condition of the city is very convenient. Meanwhile, Alicante is a cultural city with a long history with lots of ancient buildings maintained in good condition.
　　There are twelve academies and universities in the city, among which Alicante University is more well-known to the people in the world.
