Wenzhou enjoys the name of "China's Capital of Shoes". In 2000, the city boasted over 5,000 enterprises of  shoes and leather products,  including over 3,000 manufacturers of leather shoes, with over 1,800 advanced foreign and domestic shoemaking lines. Their technical equipment, technological level and product quality all hold the leading position in the country. The annual output value of the shoe and leather industry in 2000 totaled 28.3 billion yuan, including 23.2 billion yuan fbr shoes, and 23 shoemaking enterprises had the annual output value of over 100 million yuan. Wenzhou shoes were sold in all parts of the country and far to over 100 countries and regions in the world. The export delivery value of shoes and leather products in 2000 reached 5.8 billion yuan. The enterprises approved to bear the "Genuine Leather Mark" account for 50 percent of the country's total, two listed among the producers of "China's Five Brandname Genuine Leather Shoes", and three awarded the title of "China's Ten Kings of Genuine Leather Shoes" . Besides, there are also two "China's Well-knownTrademarks". A large-sized shoemaking base integrating production with scientific research, testing,information and trade, "Wenzhou China's Shoe Capital Industrial Park", is under construction.
