In recent years, the investment in the project has reached 8 billion Yuan. Longwan Gas Turbine Power Plant and the No.3  and 4 generating units of the second-phase project of  Wenzhou Power Plant are constructed. The Shanxi water-control project, with the total investment of 4.1 billion Yuan, is the biggest investment project  with foreign funds in Zhejiang Province. Its No.1 and 2 generating units and the two generating units at Zhaoshandu had been successfully completed and put in operation at the end of 2000.area has increased by over 1.2 million square metres with the completion of the Songtaishan,  Xinhe and Haitanshan Squares and the urban road area by over 2 million square metres with the construction of 21 roads.The construction scale of the city's central district has been expanded to 5.2 square kilometres, with the Xiu-shah Park built and open to visitors and the trunk roads such as Shifu, Fuxi and Fudong Roads being in the upsurge of construction. A number of projects, including Wenzhou Museum, Wenzhou Science-Technology Hall, the Century Square, the Youngsters' Activities Centre and the Examination and Approval Service Centre, have started their construction, while the Convention Centre,the Cultural Square, the Library, the Archives Hall and the Opera Theatre completed their preliminary work. The quality of the drinking water for the urban residents reaches the standard by 100 percent and the target of the daily water supply of 600 thousand tons was attained in 2000. With the construction of the urban water supply auxiliary projects mid the successful launching of the sewage treatment project of the Wenzhou Ruian inland river, Wenzhou will make a qualitative leap in the urban drinking water and river environment.
